What you will be able to do

Not topics covered — things you will be able to do when you finish.

Write an instruction that produces output you can use without rewriting it
Choose the right tool for a task instead of using one for everything
Verify AI output and spot the specific ways it fails
Know what should never go into a prompt at work
Build a repeatable workflow for a task you do every week
Explain honestly to a colleague what these tools can and cannot do
A word before you start

I have watched people go from "this thing is useless" to "this saves me six hours a week" without changing tools — just by changing how they ask.

The other half of this programme is knowing when to stop trusting it. These systems are confident when they are wrong, and that is the failure mode that will actually cost you something at work.

About this programme

Most people using AI at work get mediocre results and conclude the tool is mediocre. Usually the tool is fine and the instruction was vague.

This programme is about getting genuinely useful work out of these systems: how to write an instruction that produces something you can use, how to tell when the output is wrong, and what you must never put into one.

Before you start: None. You need no technical background.

The curriculum

Every module below leaves you with one named skill. Open a level to see them.

1 Getting useful output 3 skills · 1 lessons · 5 min 390 XP

The difference between a vague request and a usable one.

Prompt Structuring 140 XP
Prompt Structuring

The single change that takes most people from disappointed to productive.

  • Why "write about X" gets you nothing useful 5 min
Giving the Model a Role and a Format 130 XP
Giving the Model a Role and a Format

Two small additions that change the output more than any amount of rephrasing.

Iterating Instead of Restarting 120 XP
Iterating Instead of Restarting

Most people abandon a bad answer and start again. Fixing it is faster and teaches you more.

Level 1 Boss Challenge: Getting useful output 8 questions · 70% to pass · 10 min · 3 attempts
2 Choosing and verifying 3 skills · 1 lessons · 6 min 460 XP

Which tool, and how to know the answer is right.

Evaluating an AI Tool 140 XP
Evaluating an AI Tool

New tools appear weekly. A repeatable way to judge them in ten minutes is worth more than any review.

Verifying AI Output 170 XP
Verifying AI Output

Essential. These systems are most confident exactly when they are wrong, and that is the failure that costs you at work.

  • The four ways these systems reliably fail 6 min
Knowing What Not to Put In 150 XP
Knowing What Not to Put In

One paste of the wrong document is a disciplinary matter. This module is short and it matters.

Level 2 Boss Challenge: Choosing and verifying 8 questions · 70% to pass · 10 min · 3 attempts
3 Real work 3 skills · 0 lessons · 0 min 440 XP

Turning the skill into something you use every week.

Building a Repeatable Workflow 160 XP
Building a Repeatable Workflow

A one-off good result is luck. A workflow you run every week is a genuine change to how you work.

Using AI for Analysis and Summary 150 XP
Using AI for Analysis and Summary

The most common professional use, and the one with the most subtle failure modes.

Explaining AI Honestly to Colleagues 130 XP
Explaining AI Honestly to Colleagues

You will be the person asked. Being accurate rather than enthusiastic is worth a lot.

Level 3 Boss Challenge: Real work 8 questions · 70% to pass · 10 min · 3 attempts

Questions people ask

Do I need to pay for an AI tool to do this course?
No. Every technique works on the free tiers of the major tools. Where a paid feature genuinely changes the answer, the lesson says so explicitly.
Is this about coding?
No. This is for people who write, analyse, plan and communicate for a living. There is no code.
Will this be out of date in six months?
The tools will change. The skills — being specific, giving context, verifying output, knowing the failure modes — have not changed since these systems appeared and will not.
Is it safe to use AI for work documents?
It depends entirely on what is in them. There is a full module on exactly this, covering what should never be pasted into a prompt and why.
