What you will be able to do

Not topics covered — things you will be able to do when you finish.

Explain what happens between tapping pay and the money arriving
Name the players in an Indian payment and what each one does
Describe how digital lending works and where the risk sits
Explain KYC, and why it is both necessary and annoying
Recognise the common fraud patterns and how they exploit the system
Say which regulator governs which part, and why it matters
A word before you start

India did something genuinely remarkable with UPI, and most people who use it forty times a month have no idea how it works or why it is unusual.

This is not a coding course. It is the map — who does what, where money actually sits, and what the failure modes are. Useful whether you work in finance, build products, or just want to know what your phone is doing.

About this programme

You use UPI several times a day. Almost nobody can explain what happens in the four seconds between tapping pay and seeing the confirmation.

This programme explains the machinery: the rails money moves on, who the players are, how digital lending actually works, where fraud enters, and which regulator governs what. India built the most-copied payments system in the world, and it is worth understanding.

Before you start: None. No technical or financial background needed.

The curriculum

Every module below leaves you with one named skill. Open a level to see them.

1 How money moves 3 skills · 1 lessons · 6 min 420 XP

The rails underneath every payment you make.

Tracing a Payment End to End 150 XP
Tracing a Payment End to End

Four seconds, six parties. Once you can trace it, everything else in fintech makes sense.

  • What happens in the four seconds after you tap pay 6 min
Telling the Payment Rails Apart 140 XP
Telling the Payment Rails Apart

NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, UPI. Four systems, four purposes, and knowing which is which explains a lot of odd behaviour.

Understanding Cards and Their Economics 130 XP
Understanding Cards and Their Economics

Cards look simple and are not. The economics explain most of what seems strange about them.

UPI, Aadhaar, account aggregators — what India built and why it is unusual.

Explaining Why UPI Is Unusual 150 XP
Explaining Why UPI Is Unusual

Half the world is copying it. Knowing what is actually novel is worth understanding properly.

Understanding Account Aggregators 140 XP
Understanding Account Aggregators

The quiet piece of infrastructure that changes what lenders and advisers can see.

Making Sense of KYC 130 XP
Making Sense of KYC

Everyone complains about it. Fewer people understand what it is preventing.

Level 2 Boss Challenge: The Indian stack 8 questions · 70% to pass · 10 min · 3 attempts
3 Lending, risk and rules 3 skills · 1 lessons · 7 min 470 XP

Where the money is made, where it is lost, and who is watching.

Understanding Digital Lending 160 XP
Understanding Digital Lending

The fastest-growing and most-regulated part of Indian fintech, for good reason.

Recognising Fraud Patterns 170 XP
Recognising Fraud Patterns

Essential. The same handful of patterns account for most losses, and they exploit the system's design, not its bugs.

  • Collect requests, QR scams and the UPI-specific ones 7 min
Mapping the Regulators 140 XP
Mapping the Regulators

RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, NPCI. Knowing who governs what makes news stories legible.

Level 3 Boss Challenge: Lending, risk and rules 8 questions · 70% to pass · 10 min · 3 attempts

Questions people ask

Is this a coding course?
No. There is no code. This is about how the system works and who does what.
Is it only about UPI?
No. UPI is one level. The programme also covers cards, NEFT/RTGS/IMPS, digital lending, account aggregators, KYC and the regulatory map.
Will this help me get a fintech job?
It will let you speak accurately about how the systems work, which is more than many people in the industry can do. It is not a substitute for job-specific skills.
